Class Descriptions

Introductory Foil
This class will introduce the basics of foil fencing, taking the student through basic footwork, attack, parry, and riposte. This class is for students ages 11 and up.

Beginning Foil II
Foil II will act as a continuation of Foil I. Here, students will refine their footwork, and learn new skills such as attacks on the blade, and feint/deceive.

Intermediate Foil
This class will introduce/refine advanced footwork techniques, and advanced bladework techniques, such as prises de fer, attack into preparation, and remaining parries.

Advanced class
This class provides the dedicated fencer with tools to use in competition level fencing. While reviewing many of the same topics as Intermediate Foil, this class seeks to acheive a much higher standard, and much more is expected of the student by way of dedication and outside class work. Significant amounts of time will be spent on electric fencing, refereeing, weapon repair, competition protocol, the RULES, etc.

Beginning Epee (not scheduled at this time)
Here, the student will learn the basics of Epee fencing, with special attention to aspects which set this weapon apart from Foil and/or Sabre.

Epee (not scheduled at this time)
In this class, students already familiar with epee will hone their skills in blade work, bouting strategies, refereeing, etc.

Sabre I (not scheduled at this time)
Here, the student will learn the basics of Sabre fencing, with special attention to aspects which set this weapon apart from Foil and/or Epee.

Sabre (not scheduled at this time)
Much like Epee, this class is intended for students familiar with the basics of Sabre, allowing them to continue in their study of the weapon, and to improve their skills.

Refereeing (Held occasionally)
This class will focus on the major aspects of refereeing: the Rules, practical application, and some discussion of armoring as it impacts the referee.

Armoring (Held occasionally)
Overview of problems and repair of Foil, Epee, and Sabre equipment, Scoring Boxes and attached equipment, rules, maintenance, etc.

Tai Chi Chuan (Held occasionally)
Simplified Taijiquan - 24 Forms: The most widely practiced form of taiji worldwide is an extraction of 24 movements from the Traditional Long Form style. It is the logical starting point for a lifetime of taiji enjoyment, practice and study. The routine takes six minutes to perform, and with careful attention to practice can be learned in about twenty hours. Unlike other WFC classes, this class will take place over two sessions for total of fourteen class meetings, and will be and hour and a half per meeting. The cost is adjusted accordingly.

Stage Combat (Held occasionally)
Introduction to stage combat techniques. Possible topics: Rapier, Rapier-Dagger, Cloak, Found Weapons, Broadsword, Staff Weapons, Hand-to-Hand combat.

Footwork (Held Occasionally)
Review of basic footwork techniques incorporated with strategy and skill building games designed to help fencers achieve greater success and confidence on the fencing strip.

Junior Team
This class is for students who are not yet 20 years old who plan to compete during the year. As this is intended for competitors, much will be expected of the students. Junior Team members will be expected to compete regularly. Though not absolutely required, members will be expected to obtain their own fencing equipment including electrical equipment. Regular attendance in class will also be expected. Emphasis of class will be competition. Students will work on such competition aspects as: sportsmanship, competition protocol, keeping score, refereeing, exersise, dietary habits, weapon repair, electric fencing, and the RULES. (ages 12 - 20 by invitation only)

9 - 11 year olds
This class, intended students ages 9 - 11, will cover the basic skills and concepts of fencing as covered in beginning and Foil II classes. Emphasis will be on fun, safety and sportsmanship.
